This wonderful Renaissance construction, so richly and elaborately decorated, was built between 1461 and 1466 to honor Cardinal Jacopo of Lusitania, the archbishop of Lisbon. He was the nephew of King Alphonsus of Portugal.
On the ceiling vault, you will see a masterpiece in glazed terracotta by Luca della Robbia. It shows the Holy Spirit surrounded by the four cardinal virtues, Justice, Strength, Temperance and Prudence. The tomb of the cardinal creates a scenographic affect on the right-hand wall and it is a very fine work by Antonio Rossellino.
