This important collection of sculptures and paintings was originally established to be a teaching museum for the students at the adjacent art school, the Accademia di Belle Arti.
It comprises a considerable number of canvases and panels, ranging from the 14th to the 16th centuries, and among the Renaissance works you will find Botticelli, Perugino and Pontormo. The Gallery is, however, justly famous for the extraordinary group of sculptures by Michelangelo.
