Museum of the Works of Santa Croce

The spacious refectory of the monastery was seriously damaged in the disastrous flood of 1966 and it houses artworks coming from the church.

In addition to Donatello's bronze statue of St Ludovic of Toulouse, you can see what remains of the magnificent painted crucifix by Cimabue, dating around 1280. This work is the most famous of all the flood victims, unfortunately, but it still shows intense dramatic power and a delicateness in the use of color.
