At the end of the right hand transept, past the Bardi and Peruzzi chapels, a beautiful 15th century door opens into the sacristy corridor.
The sacristy of Santa Croce is a sumptuous 14th century ambience decorated with splendid 15th century inlaid closets, and on the right-hand wall you can see a frescoed crucifixion by Taddeo Gaddi, reckoned to be Giotto's best pupil. Directly opposite the entrance, the Rincuccini Chapel is closed off by a magnificent wrought-iron gate. Here the frescoes are predominantly the work of Giovanni da Milano, from around 1365.
Giovanni's art is a development of Giotto's, with more naturalistic accents and a lively sense of color. On the right, you can see the stories of Mary Magdalene and, on the left, the stories of the Virgin Mary.
