Desiderio da Settignano. The discovery of grace in Renaissance sculpture
The Bargello National Museum houses the first exhibition ever dedicated to the Florentine sculptor Desiderio da Settignano (1429-1464). He was a student by Donatello, and his works show a particular intensity, as well as a natural attention for every detail, actually he used to work with a very delicate touch, as if he was painting, like his teacher.
The exhibition has been organized together with the Louvre Museum and the National Gallery in Washington D.C. and it’s organized into different sections: religious and profane busts, full relief sculpture, the devotional relief and decorative sculpture. This exhibition aims at doing justice to this sculptor “whose grace and elegance were great” (Vasari)
