The Almond Door is the most beautiful of the three doors to Santa Maria del Fiore. It opens towards the shrine of the Annunciation and was built between 1406 and 1421.
It is distinguished by very rich Gothic decoration and you should especially note this in the niche where you can see a bas-relief of the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven, an important work by Nanni di Banco.
Up high on the side portals, the two small statues of the prophets are perhaps the work of the young Donatello. The mosaic in the lunette is from 1491 and was made by Domenico and Davide Ghirlandaio.
